Virginia Beach Termites Are The Worst House Guests
The most destructive termites in the United States are subterranean termites. Each year, U.S. property owners pay out over $5 billion dealing with these wood-destroying pests. Why are they so destructive? Because they're sneaky. Really sneaky. They come up from the ground and quietly feed on the inside of wood. It is usually only after years of damage that these insects are discovered. Don't wait for your property to be destroyed from the inside out. Get proactive about termite damage prevention!
Our Termite Control Process
Subterranean termites live in the ground. They don't attack your property from the air. Workers tunnel through the soil and look for wood that touches the soil. If they find it, they will tunnel into the wood and secretly access your property. If there is no wood-to-soil contact, they'll build above-ground soil tunnels called shelter tubes or mud tubes. These may appear on foundation walls where you can see them, but more often than not, they'll be created in shaded locations. If you have concrete piers in a crawl space under your property, it is possible for workers to create shelter tubes right up the inside of a pier and enter your property without you knowing you have a problem. The first step in termite control is effective detection. You need to know where to look and what to look for. Below are a few key area our technicians inspect:
Slabs, crawl spaces, and piers for signs of shelter tubes
Wood, for signs of interior termite damage
Under insulation, for signs of termite activity
Plumbing and moisture points, for conducive conditions that attract termites
Spider webs, for the presence of swarmer wings
Garage walls, for shelter tubes or detectable damage
Targeted Treatments For Your Virginia Beach Property
When termites are detected inside a structure, we can directly treat the structure with Termidor HE or establish a termite control barrier around the structure. In both cases, this can arrest the damage because the subterranean termites in our region rarely live inside man-made structures. They go in and out. As they do, workers will constantly be looking around your property for other sources of food. This brings them in contact with the Termidor HE products, which is undetectable. They pick the active ingredient up and share it with the other workers through a process of grooming. Slowly (but not too slowly) it works its way back to the colony and completely eliminates the threat. No more colony; no more threat.
How To Establish A Termite Control Barrier
While Termidor has a transfer effect, you can't just pour it on the ground or apply it to one area. A trench must be dug near the foundation wall to create a barrier that runs all the way around the structure. Often, drilling is required in order to establish a complete barrier around an entire structure. This process is best performed by an experienced and trained termite control professional. We happen to have a few of those on staff here at Mosquito Elite Pest Control. If you're looking to protect property in the Virginia Beach area, we can help you get the protection you need.
